Verizon Wireless said its BlackBerry customers can now manage their financial accounts on the go.
The carrier introduced a mobile banking application that works on BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphones. The mobile banking application also is available on several Get It Now-capable phones, said the company.
The application allows customers to view account balances and transaction history, transfer funds between eligible accounts, view and pay bills and view the past five transactions completed on their mobile device.
Customers must have accounts with participating banks, which currently include Wachovia, Regions, SunTrust, USAA, Synovus, America First Credit Union, Arvest, Bancorp South, FirstBank, South Financial and BECU.
Customers receive an eight-digit secure initialization code that will allow them access to the mobile banking application on their phones.
There is no monthly charge for the application, although data charges may apply.

This is nothing new, I remember when First Star bank (now US Bank) in Ohio offered banking on your mobile device. This was back in 1998, they had this for about a year. I had a Nextel device at the time. Once they mergered with US Bank they stopped offering the mobile banking; it must have been a test market. I was not solicited to participate and found out through a friend of mine. I was abe to check balances, transfer funds, use the bill pay service...it came in very handy. Maybe the RCR can right an article on the history of mobile banking. I would still be using it if they had it today. Thx,Joe
